Tune: Dix
('As with gladness men of old')
Matthew 2 v.9-15
********
Wise men from the east did come
To the young child Jesus' home
Following the star to where
They knew joys beyond compare
Then in scene most wonderful
Presented gifts to Him all
Theirs was gold, frankincense, myrrh
In His presence pure they were
Desire to worship Him, King
They their homage did Him bring
Lord, who all to us do give
Help us serve you as we live
They were truly wise, for they
Did as God in dream did say
They to Herod not returned
But God's will it was discerned
Little family did flee
To Egypt, not danger see
Mary, Joseph, and young child
Jesus, saved from troubles wild
For God to Joseph in dream
Said of Herod, he would deem
To destroy the young child, so
Into Egypt they did go

- Comment from author about the poem: A hymn-poem 7.7.7.7.7.7. There's not a great amount of Scriptures on the Epiphany - the revealing of the young child Jesus to the wise men - though Matthew's gospel records it. Can you help? If read as 'said' poems, do you find my poems grate or jolt a bit? Some are a bit staccato. sometimes leaving out words such as 'and', 'or', 'the', etc, to get the right number of syllables for each line. A friend preferred not to include the hymn tune in a magazine, but that spoilt things a bit, I felt.

thanks for the earlier git .. here, have this one on me ..
Arggh - git?! lol.
I meant gift .. a Freudian slip maybe you git 🙂
It could be like 'I git no satisfaction', to alter the song title. lol. But even that's 'I can't get no satisfaction'. Notice the double negative of 'can't' and 'no'. So they CAN get satisfaction.
What are you waffling on about Orchi? asks Fido. Do go back to sleep, he says to me.
You call it as you see it Orchi. It's your poem. And a great one at that. 😊👍
Thanks AP. It wasn't this poem that was refused a hymn tune - aww, poor old poem, can't sing it!
Maybe I got heretical using a Remembrance Day hymn tune for February?! lol.
Can't sing it? Even better. 😁👍
Boohoo, but I wanted to sing it - 20 times over! lol. Make sure they heard my melodious tones.
I thought it sang well.
Good job.
Thanks 2.
Good one Orchi.
Thanks Gold.
