Tune: Louvan
('Here, O my Lord, I see thee face to face')
Based on a prayer by St Ambrose (c.339 - 397AD)
************
O Lord, who has mercy on all do take
Away from me my sins, clean within make
Mercifully kindle in me I pray
The Holy Spirit's fire for every day
And take away from me hard heart of stone
Give me a heart of flesh, your words be sown
In it, a heart to love and adore you
To be my only God, holy and true
A heart to delight in you, choose your way
To follow and enjoy you every day
And too through each night here my guide still be
In Christ's name I ask, hear my humble pleas

I note the origin, or inspiration for this hymn poem goes back a very long way indeed ..
We don't hear an awful lot about Saint Ambrose these days do we .. but thanks to saint Steven, I doubt he'll never be forgot .. Neville
Thanks N. Didn't you meet him in person, with Goldfinch and I, if you're millions of years old as we are? lol.
THREE of 'em? you could have at least called it a trilogy and then called it a day....
But no, you are going to continue until you have enough for a big leather bound book you can hit over the heads of poor Sunday school kids........ 🥲
Doh! I did not mean that sort of 'Bible bashing'. lol.
You're a good sport orchi 👍🏽
And now my next sidetrack, being Sir Orchi non sequitur....
The 'n' and 's' will be capitalised if you are taking the position seriously...
I've gone on to number 4 in the series. Just how many there will be in total, I don't know yet!
A saint inspired this write. That is lovely to know. If any call on this hymn in person and leave their mark, I will be even more impressed Orchi. It is a beautiful day. May the sun shine on you.
Thanks C.
Mercy, forgiveness, expiation some things we all could use. Oh I shouldn't assume. I at least could use them. Good write Orchi
Thanks SB. Yes, needed by all.
Good words Orchi, if only.
Andy
Thanks Gold.
