Bukowski’s Muse

Teddy.15

Yes, I admit, my work is never posh

I don't like fancy poetry

I don’t need a vocabulary of big words

sending my reader to a dictionary isn’t my style

I prefer to make them cringe and blush

that is where the richness truly comes from right?

pure honesty of who and what I just fucked

prostitutes and dogs galore

even one poem that gets the reader thinking

thinking about the magnificent imagery

and emotion from each unpoised line

waiting anxiously for the next

and in some rare cases

when my reader even becomes envious?

because isn’t that's what poetry means?

and finally… the last line

that always gives me the satisfaction of impact

Bukowski admitted his very best friends

and finest company were Bach and Mozart

and the true reason he loved them

was because they were already dead

so maybe, just maybe, right now

they are all somewhere

composing a masterpiece…

whilst I the muse, am living very happily in limbo?

I did not know Bukowski, until I read this poem, and thought it only right that I should, before I commented. So I went to You Tube, found the man, and watched the interviews and his poetry readings. Raw, merciless in many ways, unencumbered by any norms, Lenny Bruce came to mind so strongly. We need the Bukowski's to keep us real, grounded in what life really is, one who has no fear and often no filter, to speak the truth especially to those who don't want to hear it. A wonderfully inspired write dear friend, thank you once again for introducing me to something, somenone, so extraordinary!

That muse is within us all Teddy, sometimes it cannot find us though.

Dear Andy very well said, I wish I could have an explosive courage to write like he did. Obviously he had a very colourful life but still as you say it's probably within us all. 🤗 Thank you dear friend.
