A Songbird's Final Flight

GeekSusie

In a world of sound and song,

There was one who sang so true.

Melanie, with voice so strong,

Gave us skies of deepest blue.

With her guitar in gentle grip,

She weaved tales of love and life.

Her melodies would softly slip

Into hearts, easing strife.

"Beautiful People," she would sing,

In her voice, a tender care.

Each note, like a bird on wing,

Lifted spirits into the air.

At Woodstock, she shone so bright,

A beacon in the rain and mud.

Her music, a guiding light,

A flowing, harmonious flood.

"Brand New Key," a playful tune,

Danced in dreams of young and old.

Underneath the sun and moon,

Her stories gracefully told.

Now the stage is dark and bare,

No more will her voice we play.

But in our hearts, she's still there,

In every song, in every day.

Melanie, your music stays,

A legacy of love and peace.

In our hearts, through all our days,

Your song of life will never cease.

Rest now, in the stars so high,

Your melody forever sings.

In the music of the sky,

You've found your brand new pair of wings.

  • Comment from author about the poem: Melanie's music transcended time, a timeless treasure that reached my heart long after her peak. Before I was even a thought, my parents, ardent fans, filled our home with the rich vinyl melodies of her records. As a child, her voice was a lullaby to my ears—strange yet wonderfully enchanting, a unique harmony that captured my imagination. Her songwriting was another layer of her genius. Each lyric, each melody, wove intricate stories that resonated with me deeply. Learning of Melanie's passing this morning was a poignant moment, a reminder of the fleeting nature of life and the enduring power of music. Amidst the routine of my workday, I found solace in her songs, streaming through YouTube, each note a comforting echo of her legacy. In this reflective state, I was moved to pen a poem in her honor. A humble homage, crafted quietly amidst my daily tasks, it's a token of gratitude for the art she shared with the world—a melody that will reverberate in my heart forever.

Joan and Janice yes, - Melanie?
Well, this morning (most of it) this changed. A shame it had to be this way... Thanks - I'm grateful in turn..
