From time to time

From time to time, I take a walk back through the years.

I amble through shadows of an old growth forest,

down once familiar pathways where my footsteps fell,

now overgrown with weeds obscuring memories.

 

In age's shade, jaded green, velvet, clinging moss,

of established obstinacy, veils that beneath.

Above, enshrouding, limbs of fantasy shudder,

in the whispering breaths of contentious breezes.

 

Here, I am a wanderer, lost in wooded thoughts,

hedged, with myopic vision of just a few steps,

treading with exceptional care, not to stumble,

over buried emotion's protruding roots,

wound 'round broken rocks of former character,

secreted under musty time's sediments.

 

Strained observant light beams, pour through sieve like breaches

in a mosaic canopy of concealing leaves,

prompting a gelid mind to search for fleeting warmth

in the coolness of denial's dark shadows.

 

Fragile strands by spiders spun, glisten in the sun

transporting unseen messengers of good and ill

Seldom heeded, brushed away, with disgust and dismay

easily broken, each a token of what lies ahead.

 

Here shades of verisimilitude fluctuate

in mirage like visions of reflective dewy tears,

revealing thorny, tangled black paths of regret and doubt,

where entry requires courage, seldom taken.

I awaken, to familiar, echoes in my core,

telling me I've been here before.

    I'm not skilled with metaphor, as I may have mentioned before once or twice...........
    However this, so rich in imagery leaves me in total concordance as it perfectly describes the flavour of my from time to time reveries, although with more truth than I could achieve.
