Tune: Deus Tuorum Militum
('Awake, awake, fling off the night')
Parts of Psalms 40 to 44
***********
I waited patient for the Lord
He inclined to me, heard my word
Brought me up from horrible pit
Set me on a rock, my path lit
Though poor and needy, even yet
The Lors thinks on me, not forget
He my help, my deliverer
Tarry not lord, help not defer
By this I know you favour me
My enemy not triumph, see
Not gain victory over me
For the Lord shall my helper be
Why cast down O my soul, disquiet
You have within your mind and heart
Hope you in God, soul, for I shall
Still praise Him, all will turn out well
The Lord to me Hi will command
His loving-kindness by His hand* (*Spirit)
And songs of praise I shall Him give
Each day and night I through Him live
Send out your light, Lord, let it lead
Me with your truth too, you me feed
As shepherd to the sheep you tend
And shall defend them to the end
In God we boast all the day long
And praise His name with joyful song
Even for ever, and always
See, Him our help, our fear allays
