Sitting there like that
with knees to chin
and blond hair strewn
still damp,
about her shoulders ..
Just like some
feathered well-worn
shawl and fresh from
her shower,
but still shaking ..
She was such a very
pretty sight regardless
of the bruises ..
Yes those, she tried so
hard to hide
neath well-rehearsed
yet shallow smile
and borrowed bath robe ..
The last time she
wore a matching pair
of cigarette burns,
like those, worn today ..
When asked
how she acquired them ..
Yet once again
replied, no comment ..

You have captured the plight of the victim perfectly. This poem paints a powerful picture of abuse and helplessness, and the fear these women live with every day. Kudos my friend for speaking for them.
I would be failing every single one if I did not share as widely as I know how, what I encounter so often .. thank you Bella ..
Wonderful words Neville and so true, we just do not know what awful things happen in the privacy of some homes.
I just do not understand why women and children get hurt and abused by others!
