Though I feel I'm playing Devil's advocate here
What with me hymn-poems, etc....
But I'm talking about rebuilding churches
Not here in the 'spiritual' sense of 'building up'
But the bricks and mortar of it
I know a place - shall remain nameless
Rebuilt their Church Centre building
Which was not even 70 years old
Dunno why - it's not used that much
Other than on Sundays, and it's semi-rural too
Not many people pass that way
They want to 'get more people through their doors', they say
Erm, why not just widen the Entrance Doors? Doh!
But, this is how it is
Appeals for dough (money) of over a million quid
And more than once!
Well, it's gotta be paid for
But, wait, that don't mean you can include it in your tithe
If you choose to give 10% weekly
Oh no - it means tithe AND extra on top of that!
As if passing round TWO hats for the collection
In the same service sometimes!
Doh! I heard it myself
They say 'We're in a lot of debt now'
They would be!
But with the customary 'Have faith'
And 'The Lord will provide'
Well, that can be true
But we can't live off fresh air alone
You rich? You got lots of dough?
Just pop along to that church
You'll soon be broke, I'll guarantee
Or pass it to me, and I will pass it to them
(Or will I be tempted to keep it myself? Ooh!)
It sounds awful
I've not contributed one penny to it
Well - I tell a lie
When I was with them a few years ago
I contributed the cost of about 8 to 10 bricks
I wants me money back!
Take those bricks out
Though there'll be a hole in the wall then!
They'll be paying for it for years to come, including loans
What do I care? I'm not even with them now!

I think I've been to that church. There was only one church that i have been to that didn't ask for money and they don't exist anymore. Great write Orchi

A tall story - some got keen - passed round a bucket to fill (that bit's true). I took it home with me to help with cleaning. Well, they said it was the 'collection' so I collected it! lol.
Such true words Orchi, when Notre Dame burned the public were asked for money by the Roman Catholics, the most wealthy organisation in the world!!!!

I was older than the former building. But we are both older than Westminster Abbey (1065 AD)!
