The Question

John Prophet

The
question.
Alone.
Are we
alone
in the
universe?
Foolish
question.
Unanswerable
question.
Lack
of
logic.
Simple
think.
Limited
recognition.
Great ape
reasoning,
mentality.
Two
trillion
galaxies
in the
observable
universe.
Each with
billions of
stars.
Perhaps
trillions
more
galaxies
over the
horizon.
Beyond
what can
be detected.
Light
currently
seen
millions,
billions
years
in transit.
Ancient
light
from the
distant
past.
Nothing
detected.
No civilization
signatures.
Who knows
about now?
What’s going
on out
there
now?
How
could
we possibly
know?

Are we alone? That’s the million dollar question:). I do love a good mystery. Haven’t seen anything yet which would make me believe we are likely to get a visit soon. I enjoyed my visit here though.

So kind to Cassie, thank you.

I believe that we are not alone and that other civilisations are out in the Universe. It is so arrogant for home sapiens to believe that they are the only people in the Universe.

I agree Andy. Perhaps A.I. will root them out.

Your poem beautifully encapsulates the awe-inspiring mystery of the universe and our humble place within it. The repetition and sparse structure effectively convey the magnitude of the existential question posed. It's a profound reflection on the limitations of human understanding and the vastness of the cosmos. Brilliant work!

Astute observation from one so young.
          Thank you

Thank you, John! Your kind words mean a lot to me.
