Louis Vuitton

Sick of being peed on

By knockoff racketeers

Called in the cops to give ‘em the fears.

A clerihew (unless someone cares to tell me it’s not) prompted by a TV doco about Manchester police raids on fake couture workshops.

Justification: these gangs were into many other illegal activities. Maybe…but I believe the pressure would have come from the Louis Vuittons of this world. Massive effort - streets quiet, then?

Manchester

World leader

In the textile trade with cotton.

I had an enjoyable visit – saw nothing rotten.

I don't have any labelled clothes and I somehow survived. Interesting poem.

    • Doggerel Dave

Most of my clothes do - after I've ferreted for hours in Vinnies and the others....I am retired you know.... I have the time.....

    • 2781

Seems to be a hot topic, at the moment.
Who's to blame? All is vanity.

      • Doggerel Dave

Depends on how many handbags you feel you need, I suppose.....😃

        • 2781

I once got accused of being my wifes handbag. I suspect she would be happy with a new one, probably suspects she got an imitation!

That always annoys me (as a tourist.) And the fakes make the fair pricing of the authentic high fashion, go too far… Cool read…

          • Doggerel Dave

Tourism is what tourism is - visit to an illusion, a fairground which I mostly enjoy, except for the other tourists..... I hope you still get much out of being a tourist, Parisab.
My reservations re the police activity revolved around the statement that these organisations were involved in much more serious criminal activity than the production of fakes. Any arrests made would have been workers or other low level members of that alleged crime ring Seemed blindingly obvious, to me at least, where the motivation to act came from...

Back in the 1960s when jeans became a 'fashion item' the price rocketed, I have never ever bought jeans since than! LOL

            Andy

            • Doggerel Dave

Probably saved yourself a fortune and mental torture Andy, as jeans not only rocketed in price but went through stone wash, acid wash and half a dozen other incarnations until we reach ripped jeans - time to reconsider - I'm sure you would look mighty handsome in a pair of them........... !!

I congratulate you on this whole page .. I love the layout and way you have introduced the topic at hand .. (a poem in its own write) and the middle portion .. perfectly and obviously justified .. a very clever touch .. and the final coup de grace, delivered with a kidney punch that takes the readers breath away coz it landed on his funny bone .. which as we all know aint funny .. but on this occasion it bloomin well is ..

Anyway, I cant remember whether I have actually congratulated you proper yet so if not ..

Here goes, tis damned fine sir Dog ..

Neville, it will take me months if not years to match your word score in responding to yours; the burden is crippling. I'll do my best,........ 'so "If you can wait and not be tired by waiting," I'll do my very best - unless you are perfectly happy with the status quo.(the 'get out of jail free' card).😊

why even bother .. that smile is enough .. 😎👍

              • Teddy.15

It's probably down to education and keeping up with the Jones's, something I would never do myself, one of those bags cost more than an international holiday. 🌹

                • Doggerel Dave

Yep - I'd go for a knockoff any day , should I be interested in handbags. Which I assure you I'm not....unless it's Saturday night.... 😅😂🤣🙃

                  • Teddy.15

                    lol 🤣 the very vision.

So much money being lost to those who make fakes of expensive labelled goods. Never been one to go for labels. I just can’t part with huge amounts of cash for a fancy handbag. Not a problem I worry about, but I guess if you have parted with mega cash and find out you have fake goods, you wouldn’t be a happy bunny. Neither would the manufacturer be happy 🙂 I’m not a designer type of gal:) I enjoyed reading your three part slice of current day life Dave. All the best.

                    • Doggerel Dave

You've put a slightly different angle on this, Cassie. I'd assumed that people who buy fakes know precisely what they are buying, just as if you purchase a Rolex for a tenner.....you know precisely what you are getting. Yes I can see your point and if in fact at the high end of the fake hand bag market, Vuitton misses out, I, like you, ain't going to loose any sleep over it.
My concern, I suppose, is the question of whether those kind of big companies have the power to influence the police into certain action.

                    • MendedFences27

Staying within my criminal bent, I have to say that the sellers of brand-named goods are criminal also. I once bought a shirt priced at $150. Went back 3 months later and got it for $30. I venture to say it could have sold for $5 and they still would have made a profit. Clothing is the biggest rip off business there is. Enjoyed your Vuitton Clerihew.

                      • Doggerel Dave

Couldn't agree more. Says all about how much those big companies are paying the actual workers who make the stuff and the monster profits they make as a result. I, where I live, I'm not wearing a single item of clothing not made in China, despite the grand labels I've hunted down in various charity shops (or whatever you call 'em where you live).

It was my oldest daughter that was fixed on name brands. Great write.
