A Cup in my Cabinet

Amyrtha

There is a cup in my cabinet
That no one uses anymore.
It is beautiful -
White and Gold,
The kind that mom would use to serve the guests.
It has patterns that shine -
Twists and swirls;
Almost perfect for royalty

Except, it sits there collecting dust,
For it is chipped on one part of the rim.

The tea still tastes the same in it,
Nowhere else is it even slightly flawed.
But I'd rather buy another one;
For almost perfect isn't enough.

And so lies in my cabinet,
A chipped cup collecting dust

  • Comment from author about the poem: This poem is about life, the way one wants perfection in every part of it - although we all seem to agree that it is alright to not be perfect. We refuse to drink our tea from a chipped cup, no matter the size of the chip or the beauty of the cup. Similarly, we refuse to live life freely and fret over life and it\\\'s flaws because of our small flaws that can barely be noticed.
