Tune: Binchester
('Happy are they, they that love God')
Matthew 13 v.54-58 parts, and part of a Collect/Formal Prayer
For St Joseph's Day: March 19
*********
Lord God, who called Joseph to be
Earthly father truly
Of your Son Jesus here on earth
Mary gave to Him birth
He full human and full divine
He born of David's line
Born of the Holy Spirit He
The Son of God true be
He the first-born son, He had see
Brothers, sisters, so be
James, Joseph, Simon, and Judas
Shares human life with us
Learnt the labours of father's trade
Carpenter's works displayed
Open our inward eyes, we pray
To see, follow your way
And open our inward ears too
Messages may we know
Of your holy will, and give too
Courage that will to do
So Mary, Joseph's examples
Help us to hear your calls
Send your blessings on families
Living lives to you please

Poor old Joseph always playing second fiddle. A good man.
Thanks SC.
Now this is a bit different it speaks of Jesus' brothers and sisters but no sisters named here. Poor Joseph had a big household to feed on a carpenter's wage. Good write Orchi
Thanks SB. I thought that too. Probably it's the Jewish thing of the time - females too insignificant, to name them all, in a patriarchal society.
Some wag suggested Jesus' surname was Josephson (geddit?!)
Depends on what you believe some would say it was Yahwehson.
If Joseph's surname was Bloggs, he would be Joe Bloggs - a typical 'every man's' name in UK. The same in USA? or someone else. I dunno, say, John Smith or someone.
Good one Orchi
Thanks Gold.
