Here's to World Poetry Day
when words count
and stanzas stand tall,
dressed up and showing off
playing up to the flash of the cameras
like film stars
at an awards ceremony.
Let's raise a glass,
beer, whiskey,
or a nice mug of tea,
to the words
that touch our souls,
that speak to
that small space
in each of us.
and says
I undertsand,
I hear you,
you are not alone,
there are others
that feel the same.
Tomorrow poetry
will be tired and hung-over
craving junk-food
and regretting that
argument with a
haiku.

I was unaware of this. Just goes to show how we need more people to read poetry. Kudos to you Tom for raising the flag of poetry in honor of free speech. 🌹
Thanks, AP. I noticed something online earlier about it being World Poetry Day and thought I'd write about it. Cheers, Tom.
Why can't they promote these things farther in advance so that more people are aware of it? Thanks to you Tom, now I'm celebrating World Poetry Day with you. Keep that quill wet. ✒️

What a wonderful tribute to World Poetry Day, I had no idea, tells you what rock I've been living under. Each stanza typifying how much poetry means in our lives, classic. And then that last stanza, perfect, I laughed my you know what off. Thank you !
Thanks Bella! I saw it was that day, and thought I have to write a poem about that. And glad you like the last stanza. Happy Friday! 🙂

Tom, I really admire your open nature, your ability to not be hidebound by preconceived notions of what I might be imbibing as I read your splendid advertisement for World Poetry Day.
This early in the morning It's a 'nice mug of tea' - later I'll explore your other options......😊
Thanks for the comment, Dave. Your reply made me smile.. I too will be exploring those other options this evening. 🙂
