Does your hunger to be loved
lead you to look for the food of recognition?
Is it a selfish trade gloved, shoved
to satisfy your masked ambition?
Saying “I love you”, do you wait to hear “I love you too”?
Isn't it lustful to steal happiness from another's smile?
Those we care for cause us the most pain it is true
why subject your chosen to the taste of your bile?
Are you willing to be hated by the one you love to guarantee their joy?
Can you put your need to be loved behind?
Love is felicity in sacrifice not freedom to destroy
To give more than all that you find
You are responsible for everything you love
Not only life but your happiness would you offer for another,
satisfying all their whims and infant tirades,
crucified for their sins suffering the pains of the greatest lover, a mother?

"To give more than all that you find" Is, I feel a good starting point for a perhaps partial answer to a definition of 'love' as a concept, Soren. Far too many of the poems I found here (or this was so until I gave up) seemed to be seeking to be loved....on what grounds?
Your piece is full of good questions.
Thanks so much Dave you caught the message clean and clear. Yes most people look at love as what they can get as opposed to what they can give.
When that one you love is found and you ae loved back as I am life is wonderful.
Andy
Thanks Gold and may that happiness continue for all time.
One way streets I've had mine in my lifetime, lucky I was bright enough to close the book. I've read this so many times dear sorenbarret, it's absolutely beautiful it breathes such power, one has to love and respect one's self I will never choose one sided love over my dignity. So truly brilliant. Inspired as always sir. 🌹
Thanks so much Teddy for the too generous review and such kind words of encouragement.
Good write SB.
It's a one-way street with KP, to be sure. The street is called 'Me, me, me' - that's KP who is 'me'. lol.
Thanks Orchi the review is most appreciated. Just don't bump into her going the wrong way on that one way street. lol
Oh lol. She gets worse - she calls the street 'me, mine, more-of-me, none-of-anyone-else!'
The selfless heart recognizes need in others, before the self. To truly love, is to give, and in giving find the life worth living. I love your last line, I love the whole package. Increcible!
Thank you so much Bella I so appreciate your comments and taking the time to read these scribbles.
