I fell deep into the dark well.

David Wakeling

It hadn’t rained for several months,
But I needed water from the well,
Even though I suspected it was dry.

So as the darkness of night blanketed the sky,
I walked out to the well.
The well that my father had built so many years ago.

Stretching too far over I fell in.
I hit the sides of the well falling like a bag of sticks.

With a mighty thump I hit the bottom and became still.

I don’t know how long I lay there unable to move.
But out of the darkness appeared three small women.
They were like fairies and glowing in the dark.

“Oh, said the first, my son you have broken your leg,
Help will soon come don’t despair”

“Rest, said the second fairy, and then call out for help.”

“You idiot, said the third, no wonder I left you. Look
at the stupid things you do.”

I lay there all night with visions of the three ladies
dancing in my head.
The light of dawn was followed by my neighbour
calling my name.

Ain't no chance of a dry well 'ere. You'd probably drown, with all the rain in that well. Doh!

I hope the neighbour had a rope long enough to pull you out David. LOL
