Before it All Began to Go Wrong
If I could go back in time,
or even dare ..
I would go back to those
pre Helen days ..
Those filled with laughter,
three square meals
and all made by my mother ..
To tie dye tee shirt days,
with patched jeans,
patchouli oil
and of course, long hair ..
To when my father
could make, or do anything ..
To those days
when me and my brother
were both strong
and our little sister had curls ..
When Kitch was a pup
and the Abbey
called to us both most days,
after school ..
And we used to carry bows
in the woods
for no reason at all,
but we did, because it made
us feel big ..
Just like choking on roll ups
and pinching mams
packs of ten cork tipped fags ..
And I wonder,
if we could go back in time,
whether you might
choose to come back with me ..

Oohhh, I wish I could go back to pre-KP days! lol.
of course you do .. I quite understand ..
You beaten that egg yet?!
I wouldn't go back in time simply because I believe nothing would change and what I have learnt on my road is that everything from the past has led me to today πΉ Fabulous thought provoker dear Nev.
That'll do nicely Teddy, I think contentment is the closest approximation to happiness & bliss .. and if you are content, then I am very happy indeed .. πΉ
Although there are many times in the past I would not want to relive, there are more that I'd give almost anything to be able to relive. When time was slower paced and less arrogance and ignorance in the world. When everyone in the neighborhood knew each other and would stop to talk. When you could leave your house unlocked without fear of strangers been there while you were gone. And when I saw a pretty girl smile to outshine everyone else. π
I'm with you all the way mate .. πππ
Some say you should never go back, but I would give my right arm to have a day back with my mum and dad, my four grandparents and my four siblings. So much in your words Neville that I like and resonate with. Simple times, when money wasnβt king, when people were friendlier and your neighbours were called auntie and uncle. Values have sadly changed. I sometimes pine for what has gone. That doesnβt mean I am unhappy. It just means time has moved on and I am nostalgic. Thank goodness for poetry, where we can pen our memories and enjoy them with like minded souls. Iβd gladly go back with ya to the days before it all went wrong . Just think, no internet, no mobiles we all walked or got buses. A very different world. I really enjoyed the detail in this write.
and you would be more than welcome Chris .. many heartfelt thanks .. π
Tremendous work. You pull the reader along brilliantly. I anticipated everything. Superb work.
Thanks Thomas
First: A fine line in pure nostalgia Neville, full of the most appealing detail (and I mean 'most' as part of many or much) which filled me with the above mentioned...
Second: Yes - I'd go back for a week's visit because there were many things/attitudes I really enjoyed.....but do I want my own naivety too?
I don't really think you are a dog at all are ya .. or should that read, you aint no dog, you old dog after all .. if these words helped to transport you back in time to when you were but a pup (and I aint talkin them yella weeds) then I am a happy old fella for the time being perhaps .. cheers you old Dave π
I would be there like a shot Neville, such wonderful times and memories back in the day. My friends and I made bows and arrows, we were never ever injured by them, or the catapults we made. LOL
Great times and such innocence all around.
Andy
weren't they just .. those days when steam was king .. bring em back (memo to self, get to work on that time machine) .. Neville
I find that as I age I hit the rewind button in my mind a little more each day, and wonder how all that life passed by. Was I really that child, adolescent, adult, now senior? I think going back helps us understand where we are. Socrates said "The unexamined life is not worth living", so the food for thought you offer here is most relevant and beautifully said.
You are not alone Bella, I'm with you every inch of the way .. and I thank you for sharing your wisdom and insight .. Neville
