Uncommon Good Scents
although I can
no longer smell it on you,
I know it must
still be there, because it
always lingers so ..
like early morning spring
mist, lingers ..
suspended like the scent
of so many
wild flowers, in the quiet
stillness of
fresh still, moistened air ..
and though I can
no longer taste you either ..
I know you
must be somewhere near ..
because I sense
your presence everywhere ..
the way I did,
when you were always here ..

I know, pretty soon it will be time to wake up
What beautiful poetry you write Neville. Make sure the sun shines on you today.
what a treat, thanks a bundle and back at you my very dearest of Cassie's
You would have more than a passing knowledge, Neville of the way the olfactory organs take a smell and transmit it to the brain (or something like that)
All I know is that smells long ago experienced, when re-presented evoke incredibly rich memories.
So on that basis you’ve given us a rich piece of poetic memorabilia.
in spite of the years of abuse I subjected my olfactory's to .. what with nicotine n stuff, they are still as keen today (almost) as they were when I worked for a Swiss Chemist making flavourings and aromatics out of guess what, .. chemicals .. anyway, I couldn't agree more with your deduction as stated above and thank you for an ever so kind and superbly reasoned review .. cheers .. Neville
My dear Nev, absolutely gorgeous, I can't help thinking this is about your beautiful mum, who ever it be it's simply gorgeous. 🌹
Thankyou so much Teddy .. you may be closer than even I imagine .. I'm sure it was writ on autopilot .. 🌹
Beautiful words Neville, that smell will always be there for you.
Andy
