We cut roses

sorenbarrett

We cut roses

Beauty must die

As petals dry

in a glass grave she reposes

Once living, man made

Gloves its leather

hat with its feather

bleached by time they fade

Only useful without breath

notes of teeth

ivory wreath

more beautiful in life or death?

Absolutely beautiful personally roses dead or dried I do love. Your metaphor is fabulous and brings death it's splendour. 🌹

So beautiful. Cut fresh or even in decay there is beauty. This poem sent me traveling to times in the past and people long gone. Such lovely memories you gave me with a vase of roses. No thorns at all.

You know KP well - last verse, first line! lol.
She says I'm the thorn between two roses - to change the picture round!

Tricky to tell if she's stuffed or not these days (taxidermy). She won't need that though, being full of botox. lol.

Remnants of a past, that when new and fresh delighted us, and is now a memory of what was. You turn the pages of a diary and find a pressed rose, which speaks of a yesterday oh so dear, and its faint scent is there, if only in your mind. You bring it all together beautifully in poem, soft and gentle.

Thank you Bella a great take on this and most appreciated.

Roses both alive and dead are so beautiful. I have a rose behind my wife's urn of ashes that I took to her funeral over four years ago.

Thanks Andy for the read and the comment. Yes many do try to hold on to beauty even after death and in our minds it sometimes even grows.
