thirteen times the cuckoo called
the first time heard since I got old ..
maybe twas a warning ..
thirteen times that cuckoo called
at just gone twelve, this Sunday morning ..

You are still here. Let that be a lesson to ya. Superstition can plague a person to death. A most elusive bird. I’ve never seen one, only heard its call. I’m still here too., I think!
Take it from me, your presence is felt ..
That cuckoo is heralding the start of spring Neville with a baker's dozen of calls .

Love this, Neville. It feels ancient yet really modern all at the same time. A cracking poem.

Perhaps 'twas the only time he could be heard, he got your attention and you counted. It doth mean something, to another cuckoo. Good write!
