Tune: Winchester New
('On Jordan's bank the Baptist's cry')
John 16 v.23-28
For Rogationtide - rogare: to ask.
****************
Jesus said, when disciples shall
See Him again, they would know well
That it was Him risen from dead
This hope did hold them in good stead
And then truly, Whatsoever
They and we ask, denied never
What we shall ask the Father in
Jesus' name, He shall give therein
Until then they had asked nothing
In Jesus name, but now to bring
Requests, ask, and they shall receive
That their joy be full, they beleive
Jesus shall to the Father go
And send the Spirit, we can know
To continue His works of grace
Always His Sprit's presence trace

- Comment from author about the poem: A hymn-poem in 8.8.8.8. Rogationtide - the Sunday and three weekdays preceding Ascension Day (Holy Thursday). This is the event of Jesus returning to God His Father (verse 4). Prayers are traditionally said for God's blessing on the land for the Harvest to come, in these three weekdays.

since in my book at least, one good turn deserves another I shall return the favour and just say that as far as my memory serves me, this is an accurate account of the version I recall hearing or reading contained in the Bible when I were a lad .. Neville
Thanks N.
Neville must have gone to a better class of Sunday School than I. I don't recall seeing him ( the big J, stanza one) and although I asked (stanza two) I can't recall ever receiving.....So all I am left with is to bow to both you and Neville's greater authority
Depends - did ya ask to win the lottery? There's an answer - probably 'No!' lol
That just demonstrates an inability to understand my social circumstances. Wot about the 'all knowing' bit? False advertising??? LOL
Familiar words since childhood and I have asked in the past and my record is somewhat less than 50% but then maybe I'm just asking for the wrong things. Good write Orchi
Thanks SB. I suppose a 'cop-out' is the reply: 'Oh yes, He always answers; sometimes the answer is 'No'!
Good one Orchi.
Thanks Gold.
