Firefly

Teddy.15

I screamed your name up to the sky

and at the stars

but you didn't reply

I cried me a river

that flowed down stream

I watched every mountain

crumble to sea

I watched the Raven fly on high

looking down,

looking he was, looking down at me

where are you, my beloved darling?

no longer with me

are you sitting on a rainbow?

or are you napping on a cloud?

please, please, I just want to see

I screamed your name up to the sky

and at the stars

but you didn't reply…

and I know you never will.

Gone. And it takes a long time to reconcile, accept. Right at the start the pain can be overwhelming. That piece could help someone in that position along, Your effort is worthwhile, Teddy.

        • Teddy.15

I would truly love that dear Dave, thank you for all your kindness and encouragement 🌹

Tremendous. You nailed it, Teddy. I used to crush them on my face, thinking I would glow in the dark. I was 6 lol

Dear Thomas, I don't remember ever meeting a firefly in London, but here in Tuscany from the very beginning of my journey I found them, they are incredibly significant in these scribbles, thank you so much, which child doesn't love them? 🌹

Grief, is like being swamped by waves from the sea, you think you are going to drown and you never know when it is going to hit you. Dear Teddy, I am no stranger to it , having lost many family members and friends. I felt yours here. 🌹

              • Teddy.15

I have been in that situation Teddy when my wife died but I know that she is a star looking down on me and is very pleased about my new love.

This did seem to be for one gone from this world although it could be for one just lost tp past love. The raven I took for an harbinger of death and the stars, clouds and rainbows as indications of one passed on. I always loved looking at the stars, although they have grown dimmer of late. But then many things have grown dimmer. Great imagery used here along with imagination. Such a nice flow smoothing it along as if on a drifting breeze.

                  • Teddy.15

My dear sorrenbarret this is indeed about eternal loss we all have that, I decided to leave London when something truly devastated happened in my family, on my arrival in the beautiful countryside of Tuscany i saw these amazingly beautiful fireflies, so yes my Raven always comes to my poetry when I speak of death. I just know grief never ends it just leaves these amazing memories in the end. 🌹 Thank you so much. ❤️

Beautifully penned dear Teddy. Grief has, and always will touch us. It leaves a painful and profound hole in the heart that you've captured so eoquently in this poem. On a warm summer's night, seeing the fireflys thick in the woods, I like to imagine they are the atoms of a loved one who has passed, flittering and flickering, existing unchanged until they join other fireflys to create something wonderful and new. Just loved it!

My dear Bella, thank you so much, you have captured the very essence of this poem. Thank you my dear friend. 🌹
