Tune: St Hugh
('Lord, teach us how to pray aright')
Matthew 6 v.5-15 parts
*********
Jessu said, When you pray, not be
As the hypocrites, see
Who love to pray that all folk view
Their piety anew
Such have their rewards as from men
No further reward then
But when you pray, to your room go
And close your door then so
And pray to your Father, he be
In that place secretly
And He who sees you praying there
Open reward shall share
But when you pray do not use vain
Repetitions, no gain
They bring, though some think they shall be
Heard for much speaking free
Be not you therefore like them, for
Your Father knows for sure
What things you need before you ask
Yet join here in prayer's task
After this manner, so do pray
As 'The Lord's Prayer', each day
His is the kingdom and the power
And the glory each hour

His Kingdom come
His will be done
On earth
As it is in heaven.
Thanks 2.
........................ Amen
Thanks N. Bit of French there? Rogare = to ask. lol.
Now if I have your proposition right (always a problematic area, orchi) I would strongly agree that all overt demonstrations of religious faith should be curtailed, and people relate to one another on an independent rational level, their beliefs a private personal matter.
Thanks Dave. I think it means people doing religious things to be seen of others, such as here, praying on street corners, probably loudly, so others will think how good they are.
Or earlier in these verses, it says don't sound a trumpet when you're giving (money for example), so as to obviously draw it to everyone's attention. Meanwhile - you got a trumpet?! lol.
Wot would I do with it? Play "Colonel Bogey"?
Actually I’m deadly serious – If I ruled Australia I would close all private and religious schools and put the savings into a topnotch public system, thus reducing our stratified sectarian society somewhat.
What are the chances?
🙏
Thanks GS. I pray KP go away, but that prayer's never answered! lol.
lol 😂
Well, it is answered, I suppose. The answer is 'No - she won't go away'. lol.
lol 😂 be careful what you wish for my friend.
I go one step beyond when I pray I go where God can not see or hear me. I wonder if that is why I don't get what I ask for? Good write Orchi
Erm, I don't think it's possible for Him not to see us or hear us - using the word omniscient - all-knowing. That's quite a long word! lol.
Where do ya go? in the coal cellar or somewhere dark?!
God one Orchi.
Thanks Gold.
