Pentecost Promise

orchidee

Tune: Down Ampney

('Come down, O love divine')

*********

Come, Holy Spirit, come

And make our hearts your home

Be pleased to take up here your residency

Prophecies made of old

Now fulfilled, it be told

Living in your people now permanently

You are the One in Three

And Three in One, so be

Father, Son, and Spirit, e'er unitedly

And Jesus' promise made

Not that we be afraid

But trust to the Spirit's presence faithfully

Spirit of truth He be

Guiding in all truth, see

Empowering us to continue those things

Which Christ in ministry

Did say and do, so be

And e'en greater things by Him us enabling

So evangelising

And too the gospel bring

To all nations, that they may have salvation

Being born from above

The Spirit of His love

Grants blessings to peoples of every station

  • Comment from author about the poem: A hymn-poem in 6.6.11. 6.6.11. Pentecost or Whit Sunday. 'Penta' meaning '50' days after Easter - well, 49 to be exact. 'Whit' can mean 'White Sunday'. In olden days people would wear white to church on this day.

When is that 49th day after passover?

      • orchidee

Thanks 2. I've taken it as 49 days (7 weeks) after Easter Day. So it's today!

So they say, my clocks a little slow.

I've been to Pentecostal churches and although I find them amusing they are a bit rigid for me. A beautiful write Orchi

Thanks SB. I'm not into 'happy clappy' that much myself.
