Summer Sun

Tom Dylan

The summer sun beats down

from clear blue skies

I sit out, enjoying the glow

on my skin. I close my eyes

and it feels like recharging,

like therapy.

Then night falls

and the dark room is like

an oven.

Sleep is a concept I can't

comprehend

like chemical equations

I can't solve.

Lying in a room

plus the lateness of the hour

does not equal sleep.

Not tonight.

And I long for the hypnotic

falling of the autumn rain

and those cold winter nights.

☀️ ☀️ ☀️ You got your vitamin D, I can't understand why you are complaining about losing some brain cells at night, Tom. ☀️ ☀️ ☀️
      Do I understand? Yeh – that’s me most summers…..

      • Tom Dylan

Yeah, the beer garden was lovely, just the trying to sleep was a pain.:-) Cheers, Tom.

Andrew Huberman's Non sleep deep rest protocol hahaha...

May you find what's missing to enable what's missing
        Cheers!

Doh! When it autumnal or wintry, we wish for Spring and Summer - and vice versa?! lol
You making that hay while the sun shines? How much hay have ya made?! lol.

        • orchidee

I can't afford to lose any more of my 3 brain cells - as Dave mentions brain cells! lol.

What? Fed up with the sun already? It’s only just started. Scorchio is yet to come. Please don’t wish autumn and more rainfall just yet Tom. Open the window or get some air conditioning. Problem solved. I enjoyed your poem.

            • Tom Dylan

Haha, thanks Cassie. I do enjoy the days, it's the nights I struggle with. 🙂 Yep, maybe air-con or sleeping in the garden. Cheers, Tom.

That's so true. No sooner is everyone setting up garden furniture and bbq's, the heavens open and the downpour begins. 🙂 Cheers, Tom.
