Housing Crisis

‘Housing crisis’? ain’t no crisis: it’s a con.

Tent dwellers, car dwellers when I for one

Manage to live in a wealthy country

Where renters pay so landlords don’t go hungry….

This is not me – I knew when and how to

Find a safe secure hole to get me through;

Plus a liability on the State,

With my pension provided on a plate.

Which is an echo from a liberal past,

No longer there for the young and outcast.

I think you are a circus performer to be quite honest you performing hamster you....

Your last lines tells the story of worlds problems Kudos Dave, I agree whole heartedly that attitudes have changed, and those who should help have no interested and those who need help are simply lost. First and for most I come from a place that taught me to help myself as it is the only way I could move forward.

      • Doggerel Dave

Thanks Teddy. Here it seems that those dedicated to help are overwhelmed, with desperate pleas to Government who say more houses will be built...but this takes time... If they can't do this in a hurry then prefabricated temporary shelters should be a priority for starters.

      • Cassie58

After the war, there was a massive building programme in the UK. New towns sprang up and prefabs were available. There was no housing crisis or homeless people on the streets. Today, there is no affordable housing and no social housing has been built. Really sad for young people. They feel they can’t get a foot on the housing ladder. A very topical post Dave.

        • Doggerel Dave

Couldn't agree more with your analysis of housing solutions in post war Britain, Cassie. Born 1941, I didn't leave the UK until 1955. Saw prefabs mushroom after 1945 on vacant (bomb) sites (ruined a playground of mine - still sacrifices had to be made lol) Had friends living in one, warm and comfortable. Governments should get on with it here. Trouble is, there are too many interests dedicated to keeping the housing market precisely as it is. And the tokenistic efforts to solve this problem cannot dare disturb the status quo.
Sounds as if the current UK situation exactly parallels Australia today.

          • Cassie58

It absolutely does. The problem could be solved fairly easily, but no one has the inclination to do it and in the meantime young people aren’t fleeing the nest. I have three in their mid twenties still at home with no sign of going anywhere. At their age, I owned my own home.

            • Doggerel Dave

Terrible situation. One of the only ways it will change is if parents inflicted with the problem really jack up and become militant. Not much sign of that from the young, who, after all came into this world and have, I think largely accepted the conditions they have found themselves in. No blame to them for that.

              • Cassie58

I’m not unhappy they are still at home. It’s nice for me, but I feel sorry for them:)

                • Doggerel Dave

Still unhealthy - I believe there's a real need for offspring to leave the nest at a certain level of development and individuate.
                  Further, what about dysfunctional families?

                  • Cassie58

I agree. I left home at 18. Fortunately for us, we have plenty of space and we all get along well.

The systems a farce. They need high realestate prices to keep the wealthy spending. Sydney is out of reach for the average punter, locals are selling out and taking their money to the regions, pushing permanent renter up, or out, with air up your b&v, while in the city commercial realestate is empting!
On top of that you we have urban sprawl, congestion, the list goes on......
                    Government red tape that s l o w s e v e r y t h I n g down, and workers that don't want to work.

But don't worry, they announced today that yoga teachers will get preference, when applying to immigrate.

                    • Doggerel Dave

This stunned me, mate. You should have been up top there writing the verse. One, I did wonder briefly how another Sydney resident would see the situation. You have answered that. And two (I’m not being condescending here) I have never read one of your writings/commentary which I could so understand and feel in alignment with before.

With the exception of workers no wanting to work, analysis spot on – many thanks.

It might surprise you to find we are very close to the same page.
Greed has taken control. The name of the game is more for less. As far as workers go, anyone willing to get dirty and not rip off their brothers, will ultimately prosper,
                        In my humble opinion!

I could not agree more .. it is not just a crying shame, it's a bloody sham .. and by the way, anger seems to suit you sir .. Neville

A timely write that has caught everyone's imagination
I believe a lot of it has to do with mass migration
It ripples through the whole infrastructure
I'm in the uk and have been trying to get a drs appointment for 5 weeks now
                        I digress
But do believe it is all connected
Thank you for the food for though

                        • Doggerel Dave

All you have to do peto, is to be very wealthy and have private health insurance.... Who cares then? Nobody of any account.......lol.
In Australia immigration is a hot topic. In fact high levels of very closely Government regulated immigration has kept Growth, i.e. The Economy in positive territory. (Note I stated 'The Economy' -nothing about 'The People'......)

tREMENDOUS WORK. i HEAR THE ANGST AND SENSE OF HUMOR HERE. This damn cap lock button. Lol. I lived on the streets for years. Didn't complain a bit. When I knew better, I did better.

                          • Doggerel Dave

I narrowly missed out living on the streets - squatted in derelict property instead. I'm not complaining either BUT it is undeniable that young folks in general have a harder deal with respect to shelter than those of us still around from the '60's and '70's did.
Thanks for the effort here - valued.

There was a time when a baby booming crowd looked back on a limited number or old and poor and felt compassion. Their fewer entitled children look out on a mass of old, jobless, homeless and feel threatened. Liberalism of the past has split to the have and have nots. The haves conservative, capitalistic and seen as greedy by the have nots. It's a new world Dave. Great write

But what is to be done, Soren?

My views are not popular nor politically correct and in fact probably not correct at all.

                                • Doggerel Dave

Oh for me much if what you have expressed on MPS makes sense, I think. I believe we could have a debate about what you term 'Political Correctness', but apart from that.....

                                  Powerful penning
                                  Dave and so true!
                                  Very enlightening
                                  It's happening
                                  here in Texas too! 😢
                                  Thanks for sharing
                                  best regards ✌️. Thad

Forces bigger than than governments are at play - politicians are only their puppets.
                                    Thanks for responding, Thad.
