Computer Memories.

Goldfinch60

Came that day yet again!

I was working for local government,

Working in the Housing Department

At a time when computing started,

I was looking after them,

A very new way of work at the time.

As in local government

They re-organised every nine months,

This time I was left out,

Left out of a job.

I went to my manager

And he said not to worry

A position will be found.

So I just said to him,

“What about the computer?”

He looked at me in astonishment,

“Bloody Hell!” he said,

“I forgot about them!”

That’s how new computing was

When I first got into it at work

All those many years ago.

  • Comment from author about the poem: Doggerel Dave asked me to give more episodes of my life, this is one of them. At the time computing in Local Government was very new. I got into it very early on and ended up working for a computer software company until I retired. This is a true story.
