Repentance Reality

Tune: Winchester New

('On Jordan's bank the Baptist's cry')

Luke 3 v.10-15

For St John Baptist's Day: June 24.

***********

At Jordan John Baptist did preach

He did unto each soul there reach

Preached repentance for forgiveness

Of sins which Christ grants unto us

The people asked, What shall we do?

And John replied, I say to you

Who has two coats, let them then give

To they who have none, so do live

And if having food it do share

With the hungry, show loving care

Tax collectors said, What shall we

Do? We here appeal unto you

John said, Collect no more than be

Right and correct, so not greedy

To extort, but live fair and clear

Knowing that God's kingdom is near

Soldiers said, And what shall we do?

John said, Do no violence, not you

Neither accuse any falsely

And content with your wages be

John said, I am not the Christ, see

But He will appear here shortly

Repent and be baptised, prepare

So in His true life you shall share

John appears to be a bit of a Marxist.......

Thanks N. If we can adapt John's messages for today, e.g. here literally - you got two coats? We might need two ourselves in Winter, but that don't help someone with no coats at all. Doh!
