No movement does it make
The immortal sits in a dark corner
What some think fake has always been awake
To all that knew it, it's been a mourner
Unchanged since the day we met
No water or nourishment does it take
Mute mouth from the air water does get
It shows no pain or ache
Without eyes it holds me in its stare
Before time began in my head
this plant has always been there
and will go on after all are dead

- Comment from author about the poem: Over 52 years ago and how long before no one knows there was a potted plant that stood in my mother in laws house. Since she has gone, as has my father in law, brother's in law, sister's in law and now it is my turn. The plant remains unchanged although the house remains shut up for months on end.

Plants are amazing. My wife has an indoor lilly that refuses to die, no matter the rejection!
I prefer growing herbs.
Thanks for the review and remarks yes I can't understand how some plants are so difficult to grow while this one seems to require no care.
some thrive with care, and some grow even if you ignore them and don't care..
but i love plants and when you literally get to eat the fruits of your labor, it's just a wonderful experience.. well written
by the way, your 'who i am' is just amazing and all encompassing.. wow and wow again and again
I thank you for your read and your most kind comments they are deeply appreciated.
Good write SB.
Thanks a lot Orchi
KP thought this would be about her! She knew she was not immortal when her botox began to melt. lol.
So mysterious, once again I thought you were writing about marriage. 🤣 Hey sorrenbarret you gave me the shivers, but may I ask what it's called? You have my mind so curious. Now it could also be as your title suggests however I'm asking, even if I look silly. 🌹
It is an air fern that resembles an asparagus fern that has been in a pot in this house for over 50 years and receives next to no care going for months without water and has never been fertilized. However there could be metaphors including marriage or relationships or many other things as well that I thought of as I wrote this piece. I am so flattered that this prompted such curiosity. Thank you friend for the read and question.
It's the tropical version of the asparagus I believe, amazing over 50 years. Thank you for letting me in on the species dear sorrenbarret it's certainly had T.L.C even if it hasn't noticed over time. Wildly happy also alone. Amazing. And yes as for metaphor works so well with much to reflect on🌹
I too have plants like this and they have moved with me but still remain alive. Immortality is certainly with us.
One of them is over fifty years old and is now with my daughter.
Andy
Thanks Andy for the review and confirmation of plant longevity. I have had bonsai trees one over 60 years and I know some that are hundreds of years old but they require care pruning of branches and roots and watering and fertilization this one does not.
