Notice of absence from Tom Dylan
Sorry if there is a delay in replying or if I'm away for short periods. Sometimes life gets in the way. As John Lennon says, life is what happens while you're busy making other plans.

Not the best day of our lives
like the well-worn cliché says
the day we got married,
eighteen years ago today,
like the day spent airline-travelling
for that holiday in the sun,
it was a day we had to get through
to start what we’d become,
a sweltering summer day in July
ideal for Britain’s beaches,
we were dressed in morning suits
and practising our speeches.
Not the best day of our lives
all that tradition, something blue and borrowed,
for us the truly magical days,
were those that directly followed.
The best day of our lives?
Who are you trying to kid?
Not the best day of our lives
but the best thing we ever did.

We got married in Essex on the 28th of December, honeymoon in Paris. Memorable for all the wrong reasons!
Still together 27 years later though.
Happy anniversary, may you grow old together gracefully.
Thanks so much for your comments. And congrats to you too! 🙂
A reality based poem if ever I've read one, Tom.
Yes, mate, true story. 🙂
Good write T.
Thanks Orchi, appreciated.
I sort of gate crashed a wedding. They said 'Bride or groom side of the church?' I said, erm, both are just acquaintances. I stayed and kept a low profile. lol. Bit upper-class with classical music included. Groom was a bit of a luvvie. heehee.
Yeah I know exactly what you mean. Our wedding wasn't upper class but was really traditional. If I was doing it again I'd do it completely differently. Much more low key. Still, 18 years later we're still going strong. She's still listening to my bad jokes. 🙂
Beautiful work, Tom. You bring this home.
Thanks so much, mate. Really appreciated.
Weather might have been better, but you made the best of it Tom, enjoy the day. 🌹
Thanks a lot, AP. Really appreciate your comments. Cheers,Tom.
Thos days can be like that but you are with the one you love and that is the most wonderful thing to have happened Tom.
Andy
That's exactly it, Andy! The actual day was so frantic, church and registrar and then the reception, speeches etc. The week after in the Lake District was bliss after the hectic run up to the day itself too.
the delightful transparency throughout is perfectly clear .. I love the openness of disclosure and evident sincerity you have incorporated into this particularly well crafted poem Tom .. and many congratulations to all those involved .. Neville
Thanks a lot for your comments, Neville. Yeah, while we both wanted to get married, the actual day was not the cliche'd best day of our lives. It was a nice day, but the week in the Lakes after were far more relaxed and enjoyable. 🙂
