Who’s Responsible?

Doggerel Dave

Notice of absence from Doggerel Dave
Not absent - still here!
Keep Calm and Carry On Poeming. 😂

The Guardian online points its finger at:

“The billionaires creating a world that’s more unequal than ever.

The populist politicians spreading discord and misinformation.

The fossil fuel executives watching the planet burn as their profits swell.

The tech giants shaping a new world around us without scrutiny.”

Anyone require more explanation than that?

Well, The Guardian provided some:

  • Teams of lawyers from the rich and powerful trying to stop us publishing stories they don’t want you to see.
  • Lobby groups with opaque funding who are determined to undermine facts about the climate emergency and other established science.
  • Authoritarian states with no regard for the freedom of the press.
  • Bad actors spreading disinformation online to undermine democracy.

Job now done? I for one...

  • orchidee

    It's always my fault! lol.

    • Doggerel Dave

Not always orchi - don't blame yourself all of the time - just 99.99% of the time....

    • sorenbarrett

The biggest question is: Why do we let them? Good write Dave like all the rest I'm behind you all the way. No one wants to lead.

      • Doggerel Dave

Oh just forget it Soren - your ‘we’ obsession is far too strong.
For anyone else who might casually pass by, I would just add that what I or any other individual can do is unite with likeminded others and protest collectively, become active.
At an individual level it is quite possible to view with a skeptical eye all statements by politicians with respect to their truth and veracity, but especially right-wing ideologies, having due regard to the history of such ideas.
Have a tilt at all bureaucracies behind the billionaires, fossil fuel companies and tech giants. Bureaucracies have much the same structural form no matter what their core business (skills required).
Or if the worst comes to the very worst you can sit on a bloody poetry site and antagonise everybody by burbling on about this stuff instead of versifying nature and love, the way all proper poets should do! 😂🙃

        • Doggerel Dave

Apologies for the somewhat curt response up top, Soren - no excuse other than I was very tired.

        • orchidee

That'll include the 'they' in some churches who are always asking for money. Doh!

          • Doggerel Dave

Didn't you know that all church roofs are constructed from papier-mâché, orchi? Lotsa maintenance required......

            • orchidee

Bit of french there - papier-mache. I been trying to work how to add the accents on 'mache' for 3 hours, but give up! lol.

              • Doggerel Dave

For a modest fee I could show yer..... but I don't believe you don't know...you just want to make conversation....lonely are yer?

Why don't yer go and help them with their roofs...might meet someone new and interesting.

                • orchidee

It's 'sad' I know, me spending such time on how to type in accents. lol.

                  • Doggerel Dave

Well, do you really want to know how to do it or was your question all flummery?

                    • orchidee

Yes! I'm all confused. Someone said it was 'Hold CTRL +476' or summat like that. Eh?

                      • Doggerel Dave

Rubbish! However as the naive idiot I sometimes am, I'll give you on the one and only piece of assistance you'll ever get from moi:
Take your crappy spelling to Google and let it correct.

                        • orchidee

It - Google spellchecker - don't tell me about the accents. lol.

                          • Doggerel Dave

Inasmuch as you keep my meagre offerings here to the fore, orchi, (There's no such thing as bad publicity) you perform a valuable service, and in full recognition of your efforts I have awarded you an appropriate title. Sir Orchi NS, here it is one o'clock in the morning and I must now send my trusty PC into hibernation, cover my keyboard and toddle off to the land of nod. I wish you goodnight.

                          • jarcher54

                            I didn't do it!

                            • Doggerel Dave

Wot precisely? Your attempt to distance yourself from the 'we' crowd, I find wholly commendable.

                            • Thad Wilk

                              Goooood one!! 👍
                              I too distance
                              myself from the
                              'we' cloud.
                              Best regards ✌️ Thad

Yes - it's a bee in my bonnet, covered a bit further back in 'Forget Four letter Words.....'.
                                Thanks for the returns, Thad.

Well said & no No additional explanation required ..

That's a relief - very weary right now....

small one, but with a wealth of meaning...keep it coming

                                  • Doggerel Dave

Will do the best I can...but I do weary.
Thanks for your continued attention. I am grateful.

                                    • NafisaSB

don't give up writing, composing - it is what keeps us feeling good and helps find us hope when we release those pent up emotions
so looking forward to more from your end, even if it is spaced out
have a good day, take care

                                      Truth. Well said.

                                      • Doggerel Dave

Thanks Thomas.....even if I contributed only two lines.....

                                      • Doggerel Dave

The Guardian has been elaborating on the theme....
