Bag Lady.

Goldfinch60

We had been asked to sing,

My choir had been asked to sing,

To sing at the River Festival,

An annual event in our town.

So there we were arriving,

Arriving in our posh clothes.

The stage was there,

And was somewhat strange

As it was the back of a transporter.

But we got the three instrumentalists on it

And the Choir stood on the ground,

On the ground in front of the truck.

One problem we had

Was where to put our stuff,

But My Mary came to our rescue,

And there she was seated in front

With our bags surrounding her,

She had become our ‘Bag Lady’.

So we started our songs

And each one was cheered.

A great time was had

And we sang our hearts out

To the wonderful people in front of us.

A good afternoon was had

And at the end we were cheered loudly.

And then we went back to her,

Back to get our bags,

Get them back from our ‘Bag Lady’.

  • Comment from author about the poem: This had been the first time that the choir of which I am a founder member had been asked to sing at the Evesham River Festival, it was enjoyed by all. The video was from a previous concert and the man in glasses on the left of the conductor is me.

And some folks are at a loss with what to do with their time when they retire..... when all they have to do is partner up with a Mary, sing in the choir, play competitive croquet, visit theatres and orchestral concerts... and... don't you do bell ringing too...?

            • Doggerel Dave

....And somewhere or other I heard you write poetry in your spare time.....

              • Goldfinch60

Thank you Dave, I am afraid Bell Ringing passed me by.
