Emmaus Experience

Tune: St Fulbert

('Ye choirs of new Jerusalem')

Luke 24 v.13-35 parts

********

It was on the Emmaus road

Two disciples, they trode

Jesu drew near, they did not know

It was Him present though

But He to them, He did explain

And made the Scriptures plain

That they of Him did prophesy

And were all true, no lie

Lord, stay with us now, they did plead

And He to them agreed

When they had once Emmaus reached

He had spake to them, preached

At the breaking of bread they knew

Said, Lord, it is e'en you

The Lord arisen from the dead

And now our living Head

He then did vanish from their sight

Though they had inward light

Said, Did not in us our hearts burn

When of Him we did learn

They returned to Jerusalem

And did say unto them

Gathered there, The Lord is risen

The Saviour of all men
