Trebrimar
Since there is now nothing
there except
for the spectacular view ..
He placed
a rustic wooden bench
by the side
of the road to provide a
little comfort
and respite for the weary
feet of both
pilgrims and of travellers ..
And for
the ghosts of his parents
who used to
love watching the Kernow
choughs,
dolphins, surfers and gulls
in the bay
overlooked from their once
more than
beautiful of cliff top gardens ..

Good write N.
Thank you kindly Steven, I quite enjoyed penning this little reminisce .. Neville
Google ducked out when it came to Trebrimar. Little matter...I've encountered some interesting benches in odd places ....a bench way away in the Blue Mountains dedicated to someone I had some dealings with as an inpatient.... a long time ago...
Hi Dave, sorry about that .. Tre in both Celtic & Cornish is the word for a homestead or small settlement .. My folks were named Brian & Mary (although everyone called my Dad Dick) hence the name of their house became Trebrimar .. Hope that helps .. sadly the original old bench is also long gone, but I plan on replacing it with a new one and an appropriate brass plaque in the not too distant future .. Neville
Relieved about that, Neville - means I can still consult Prof Google with a modicum of trust.
Feels like a great place, one to cherish. I hope the bureaucratic hoops and hurdles required to navigate in order to place that seat aren't too great.
Sounds like a beautiful spot. In Cornwall overlooking the sea. Very considerate of him to install a bench. Perhaps they still visit, in an unseen way.
It's sweltering here, and your poem made me travel to Cornwall, and it felt cooler, Thanks for that. - Phil A.
Thanks Phil, yes it is a smashing spot .. the perfect place to sit and enjoy the various views, or to reflect and ponder .. there was seven years between my father and mother passing but I scattered their ashes together in the bay just below their vantage point .. it is a very special place in general but I think even more so for me .. and yes, I would like to think of them visiting together from time to time .. Neville
How we do cherish the places that hold strong and wonderful memories of our loved ones This poem is such a sweet and beautiful remembrance of that bygone past, that lives on in your heart.
You got it Bella .. I so hoped you would .. thank you my friend .. Neville
Such a wonderful way to remember your parents in a spot which meant so much to them and to you too. To sit on that bench and look out to sea is both peaceful and calming. I have a similar place to remember my parents in Torquay. It brings them closer.
.
Thank you Cassie .. the bench my father made is now gone but I fully intend to replace it with an appropriate plaque since neither of my folks have any other form of marker to visit or to pay my respects & talk to them .. Neville
If ya hadn't have told me, I would have thought it was in Timbuktu or somewhere! lol.
Superb imagery. I can see it in my mind's eye.
.. Blimey, thanks Thomas what a lovely thing to say .. Neville
Wonderful words and memories Neville.
Andy
