Onto the stage they came,
Three musicians,
Guitar, bass and drums.
Then he came on,
The Man in Black
And started singing,
Singing songs I knew
And had known for years.
He was joined by his wife
And they duetted with love,
Love that had been with them,
With them for many years.
Then came that moment,
The lights went down,
He was on the stage alone
And sang that song.
A gentle light shining down on him
The light of his life
Taken from him
Leaving him alone.
So he sang this song,
Tears running from my eyes,
His last song before that day
When he went to meet her
And they were together once more
In the glory of their love.

- Comment from author about the poem: We went to see the Johnny Cash Roadshow last night, a great tribute to Johnny Cash. I have a great deal of respect for this man and have read his autobiography. His wife, June Carter Cash, was married to him for 35 years, she died in May 2003, he was devastated but he joined her four moths later, When the man sang 'Hurt' last night there were tears in my eye. I have all of Johnny Cash' albums.

A poignant write Gold.
Thank you Orchi.
A cover from Nine Inch Nails that put a whole new twist on the song. Johnny did have his past drug problems though which, as far as I know, he overcame. A great song and a wonderful write.
Thank you soren, yes he did have his drug problems but his belief never failed him and his love for June was so very strong.

One of my favorite singers. A great tribute you've written. A meaningful loss to the world of music and the world in general. - Phil A
And mine Phil, as I said I have all his albums. Yes he was a meaningful loss to the world.

There is pathos, and yet beauty in the artist's ability to express heartache in music that is deep within his soul. A wonderful video, a wonderful poem and a wonderful tribute to "The Man In Black".
So kind Bella and very much appreciated.

Andy: Hear Hear – Johnny Cash was/is one of the greats.
That song – very close and very bloody painful.
Thanks anyway for a well tuned informative write.
Thank you Dave, much appreciated.

Much more than the Man in Black, his music sustained me through a number of hard times. World is a sadder place. Thank you for this tribute.
