The Seat by the Fire

Tom Dylan

Notice of absence from Tom Dylan
Sorry if there is a delay in replying or if I'm away for short periods. Sometimes life gets in the way. As John Lennon says, life is what happens while you're busy making other plans.

There’s something wonderful

about sitting in a pub on my own,

it feels like bunking off school,

or throwing a sickie from work.

A pint of ale,

savoury bar snacks

and a good book.

Another chapter,

another beer,

same again.

If I was a cat I’d be curled up

and purring.

It’s a delightful way to

spend a couple of hours.

I know I’ve had a good night

when the only dialogue

has come from

fictional characters.

We all need our own space and even though a bar may be packed you can always find some space there for yourself. Nice

    • Tom Dylan

Yes, that's exactly it. Always find a quiet corner. Thanks a lot for your comments.

How did you know, Tom? That time - The Chancer's Arms (I think), pint of real ale (founding member of CAMRA) and that book.....ah...memories (the fire, even).

      • Tom Dylan

Oh yes, a pint of real ale and a paperback! And I start drooling the minute I spot the CAMRA logo! 🙂

There is something very special about being on your own in a favorite spot, I really get that. You convey the feeling beautifully!

        • Tom Dylan

Yes, Bella, that's exactly it. Savouring the moment to yourself, is just so special. Thanks a lot for your comments. Cheers, Tom.

Thanks a lot for that, mate. Really appreciated. And yes, I had no plans the other night and went for a couple of pints with my book. Best night I've had for ages. 🙂 Thanks again, Neville.

Fido, me talking and reading dog, pinches the seat by the fire, while he reads poems and barks at anyone not marking poems 18+ where they should be! Then barks at me if I try to turf him out of the chair. lol
He's friendly really - bark worse than his non-existent bite.

            • Tom Dylan

His non-existent bite! My Labrador has gone one of those too! 🙂

In the past I have seen many like that and occasionally it would have been me. Good words Tom.

I just wanted to say how much I enjoyed your poem! It really captures that cozy feeling of being alone in a pub, which I can totally relate to. The imagery of a pint of ale and a good book creates such a warm and inviting atmosphere. Thanks for sharing your perspective—there's something special about finding joy in those simple moments. Keep up the great work!
