Goldfinch60

So sad, what the young lad said to me;

“I have never read a book.”

How could I explain to him the pleasure,

That can be found in reading,

 Stories that can thrill; can make you laugh;

Can make you cry.

Books to me have always been there,

The total range of emotions can be felt;

Love, anger, hate, sadness, happiness.

Not to know these feelings that are given

By the skill and imagination of authors,

Is alien to me.

Listening and looking can produce emotion,

But reading allows you to use, your own imagination,

To create those characters, brought to life on the page.

To imagine the look of the villains and heroes is something

So personal, that if recreated on screen,

Mostly lets you down.

    I agree, although I am still on the same book, after all these years.

      We all have our own book 2781 but we move onto each new page daily.

        There's a lot to learn.

        Good write Gold.
        Some things seem 'old' these days. People may say 'What is a book - fax - letter - cheque - or video tape cassette, as a snooty shop assistant implied in unsaid words to me. Doh!

          So very true Orchi, we are the old ones now.

            We had a dodgy old office. if one used the fax, all the other machines stopped working. Surprised they didn't blow up! It was before some employment closed down or was relocated. Not that the last manageress cared at all.

            books should always be the most precious thing we can enjoy. 🌹

              Gold you have addressed a modern chink in the armor of society. Books are so difficult to replace in other media format. Well stated my friend

                Most kind soren and so true, thank you.

                I was an avid reader, not so much now, apart from reading poetry. I used to love that feeling of getting lost in a book and getting to know all the characters. I can remember feeling upset when I read the last page of some works of fiction. I wanted more. So relatable Andy. Some really miss out. Happy Tuesday. Loved your posted foot tapping music.

                  I still read every day before I go to sleep and have read many books in my life. Thank you Cassie.

                  I too get lost in books – among the sagging shelves in my local charity shop.
                  A trend away from books combined with lowered concentration levels…….

                  • Goldfinch60

                    It happens Dave as we get older but I still read them.

                    Books will last as long as language survives. No two people will describe an apple the same. When authors write they have a vision in their head, and only they know what it is. Once recorded in their book, it will never be translated exactly by any reader. Maybe someday when technology is capable of reading brainwaves exactly and reproducing them accurately, books will become obsolete. Not until then. - Phil A

                      Very true Phil, we each see different things in the same books. Thank you.

                      Fantastic! Completely agree! There's something wonderful about books. And yeah most film adaptations are awful. There are exceptions but for every Godfather film there's Tom Cruise as Jack Reacher. 🙂
