All Thatโ€™s Left Are the Memories

Accidental Poet

Gone, but not forgotten

The memories of a lifetime

Take the good with the bad

Every nickel and dime

From birth to deathbed

Our memories so clear

Until the onslaught of Dementia

Take the ones so dear

But while we had them

A joy to behold

They bring us smiles

Even tears of gold

Count your lucky stars

For love was bestowed upon you

As you look back

On those memories too

From rainclouds to sunshine

Always a memory there

I think you’ll agree

That smile a pleasure to wear

After all that’s said and done

And we’ve lived our life’s story

Let’s be thankful for

All that’s left are the memories

Hello AP. Thank you for bringing me Elvis this morning. I love your poem of reflection. Beautifully worded. Memories can be so comforting, especially when there has been loss. Have a happy Friday. All good wishes to you poet.

Yes Cassie, memories are comforting. And at times they can quite the opposite, but that is part of life. My emphasis here is trying to stay positive of all the good memories even when the sad memories bring you down. The good memories outnumber the bad ones by a longshot. Thanks Cassie ๐ŸŒน

I am trying my best to focus on the good memories. The sad ones can send us tumbling. I like your positive outlook AP ๐Ÿ™‚

I wish I could have no memory of KP.
Not to offend any with real dementia, btu KP's gone demented in her own way - or drives me demented! lol.

Lions, bears, serpents and democrats don't scare me; dementia frightens me the most. Nice work.
