Old fashioned political correctness

sorenbarrett

Vulture, dog, pig and chicken
what we call people that us sicken
But then what is in a name
did someone not say that a rose by any other would smell the same

Excuse me for stealing verses
not much better than robbing lady's purses
Next time when someone calls you a name
just think of the rose and laugh with no shame

Sticks and stones will break my bones but names will never hurt me. Learned that at a very early age in primary school Soren. Sadly too many these days appear to like the sticks and stones. We are living in a world of conflict. Poetry makes it so much better. Yours is a joy to read.

It took me time to work out it was not my problem, unless I was the abuser.

            • sorenbarrett

Thanks for the comment. No not anyone's problem. Shouldn't be a problem at all then there would be no one to blame and no one to feel bad.

Soren, Soren, Soren – you know this is not what the whole debate, loosely labeled ‘Political Correctness’ by those who do not like the original idea is about.
So the concept that language shapes our attitudes, the way a culture places its elements is long debated.
The most simple and obvious example (which should lead you to determine which side you are on) is that of ‘Chairman’: Argument – term excludes in people’s minds women from the role. Response from the other side (that you?) ‘Nah, rubbish- but if you must, we will use the term ‘Chairperson’ so we can continue to keep up our conservative backlash intact’.
For my money, ‘Chair’ would have done the job. (That’s me!)

Good try Dave how about Chairhuman it is as good as chairperson. That way we inflict the same damage we did when we labeled woman the man emphasized maybe it came from contracting woe is man.

Not a 'try' Soren. An attempt to argue a case and convince.

                  Let's leave it alone.

Being kind of hard on the vultures dogs, pigs and chickens, eh? The message stands though.
