TV Judge

AuburnScribbler

Ooh look! What have we here?

A channel flipping king,

whose wisdom is something to fear,

yet nothing is within,

scrutinise he will do,

without a learned thought,

at those who act on what they grew,

refusing to be taught,

first the news, is on the screen,

his bland opinion thrives,

no real spark for change it seems,

thus, nothing does arrive,

as voting out of habit,

repeats a regime pain,

but, comfort blanket gadget,

will keep him in the game,

he switches to the sport,

where he slips his tongue,

casual racist, is what’s brought,

to someone very young,

in playing captain obvious,

skill cries in the dark,

he remains oblivious,

missing every mark,

talent show he watches now,

where his verdicts stay,

hurtful words, for her in gown,

as her song does play,

“what a fatso!” Says TV judge,

whilst eating all the snacks,

from someone who will barely budge,

thus, brews a heart attack,

after such a grand old day,

he struggles to retire,

as emptiness does strip away,

the warmth of any fire,

that could be stoked with love,

without such spoken hate,

where gutter brain could reach above,

outside his garden gate.

  • Comment from author about the poem: This one, I imagine, could also have been called "Couch Emperor", but I feel that could be reserved for another poem, that would tell the story of an annoying Victorian thinking slouch, judging the efforts of his family at home. With that said, I give you this one; called, "TV Judge", which is about a guy who is a complete philistine in his viewing, yet thinks himself correct with such tasteless and damaging remarks. Though, perhaps, because of such a repelling front, such a solitary man may just need a friend. Anyway, when it comes to vices, there are many, but to me, the need to judge, (and most of it, if not all of it unnecessary), is also one. "Judge addicts" are everywhere, and they use everywhere as their place to get a fix. However, there is no more an apt place to judge the world, then on your sofa watching the TV. The banner picture of the notepad and pen, I envisage to be their tool, to write down such "wise words", that are in fact; nothing more than dust in the wind. I hope that you enjoy the poem, bless the "TV Judge" above, and as always, please do stay safe everyone.

The power of News and TV a one way conversation that molds public opinion to focus on the negative and ignore the positive. So nicely done

Thanks for the read and for your encouraging words sorenbarrett.

If only such powers could revise their methods to aid in some much needed healing.

      I hope that all well.

          Groucho Marx once said:
"I find television most educational as when it is switched on I go into another room and read a book."

Thanks for the read Andy, and yes, Groucho was full of little enjoyable witticisms.

In terms of general dissatisfaction, that keeps on being provided at the moment, one of my favourites from Groucho is:

"Yes, room service please!" "Oh hello Mr Marx, what would you like sir?" " A bigger room!"

Thanks again, and I hope that all is well.
