ARE POETS MAD?
I cannot say for sure,
But one thing is certain:
Without the dream and the verse,
In madness shared,
The poet cannot live.

From my private studies on our genre, it's not so much the accusation of insanity as the drive compelling us individually forward. I believe our forefathers were the prophets of antiquity and they having been falsely charged with madness, how can we avoid their fate? This is what we were called to do.
Thank you for the thoughtful response. I am in total agreement with your assessment. Thank you !
Nicely worded and too close to true to admit. Loved it
Much appreciated! Thank you
Literary critics and literati have debated for centuries what makes poetry different from other written works. Its structure? Its rhythm? Its subject matter? Its intimacy? But I think you've hit that old nail squarely: poetry is formal madness. Thanks for figuring it out!
Well put ! Great outlook on your observation! Thank you !
You, sir, did all the work!
Flirting with madness, anyway. Would be dull otherwise. Nice.
