The Tiny Jug of Water on a TV Panel Show

AuburnScribbler

Full I do remain,

if tirade is the quench,

there’s an awful lot to say,

by those upon the bench,

rarely am I used,

by chosen moderator,

acting as the referee,

a mock god-like creator,

there go little sips,

from a sporting hero,

to dilute their chosen pain,

wearing a size zero,

a big gulp is taken,

by the one who answers,

such an audience applauds,

all the chat show chancers,

half of me is spilt,

if drunken star does stir,

not plugging book, their agent cries,

at an A-list slur,

thus, empty I become,

just like the ones who speak,

oral cheques, that do despair,

that make their lives so bleak.

  • Comment from author about the poem: This anthropomorphic one; is written from the vantage point of "the tiny jug of water on a TV panel show." It clearly sees the usual suspects in a very dim light, and tells us the different ratios of water that are used by such "award winning hereos!" Attached, is a still from the popular British topical panel show "Question Time", of which, by each paid guest, is a teeny tiny jug of water. Also, when it comes to award winning, to my knowledge, I don't think "Question Time" have won any. Anyway, I hope that you enjoy the poem, let's hope that some actual sense can be orated on these type of shows soon, and as always, please do stay safe everyone.

Nicely worded and with a good message this one strikes to the heart of what most have to say. Lovely

    • AuburnScribbler

Thanks for the read and for your lovely words of praise sorenbarrett, and I am also glad that this poem resonated a good message.

I hope that all is well.

    • Teddy.15

Did you ever watch countdown? Or question of sport? Or Mrs Brown? LoL 🤣

      • AuburnScribbler

Thanks for the read Teddy.15, and yes I have watched all three, and at times, the content was by far more illuminating. Hahaha!

I hope that all is well.

Good write my friend, pegged it really well. Talk shows end up being just that, a lot of talk but too often very little substance. Give me an episode of Fawlty Towers any day. You rule!

        • AuburnScribbler

Thanks for the read and for your overwhelmingly kind words Bella, they are very much appreciated.

I am also glad that you are on board with what I think is a prolonged charade, and to soothe my annoyance, perhaps I will watch a few episodes of Fawlty Towers myself, though of course, I will not mention the war! Hahaha!

Thanks again, and I hope that all is well.

You picked one of my favorite episodes, I'm laughing just thinking about it. Hahaha!!!

            • AuburnScribbler

Bless you Bella, we will chuckle together in spirit, whilst watching John and his silly walk! Hahaha!

They seem to say so many words but do not say many meaningful ones Ben.

Thanks for the read Andy, and I am glad that you agree with both me and "the little jug of water on a TV panel show."

I hope that all is well.
