Gone The Summer

Cassie58

August crawls towards September

summer days are almost over

gone the chance to dance in clover

barefoot with the one you love

soon we’ll gather by the handful

ochre leaves in autumn free fall

watch them tumble to the paving

not for saving we will burn them

warm our hands when cold winds blow

then the snow will freeze our fingers

and the frost will choose to linger

late into the morning hours

bleak our garden with no flowers

in the midst of winter pall

  • Comment from author about the poem: This morning I shivered. I donโ€™t feel the cold easily. Dull, grey and blowy. Seasonโ€™s about to change. I feel it in my bones. The oaks are already browning and their leaves descending.

Autumn is my most favourite season, leading to Christmas, for me a magical time colours of every shade of orange and the sun in every corner yet heat is mild. Your poem stunning I felt the chill but I also saw the magic that autumn brings. Goodbye to summer until next time. Fun fact, September and October here is the real summer season, low 30's but still hot to have a swim in the sea. Beautifully crafted as always dearest Cassie, happy Thursday. ๐ŸŒน

I love the colours of autumn Teddy but the feeling I get as it approaches is one of low mood. Your September and October sound wonderful. Pleased you enjoyed my efforts. Thank you so much for a lovely review. ๐ŸŒน

      Not just a metaphor

      • Cassie58

The wonderful thing about poetry, is that it is subjective. Some may see a metaphor here, others a poem about the changing seasons. Thank you for stopping by.

      • sorenbarrett

What a great metaphor in this poem. The seasons of life expressed in each line. With the memories we warm our hands. And so we do.

        • Cassie58

Thank you so much sorenbarrett for the appreciation you have given to this write. All the best.

But I want to dance in clover a bit more - with KP? Swoon!
September is sometimes good though. It's the end of a hurricane passing through!

          • Cassie58

Itโ€™s been a damp chilly day here. I am trying to picture you and Mrs Botox dancing barefoot in clover:) Thank you for checking in Orchi.

The first chills of fall felt today!

            • Cassie58

Thank you Alan. A damp chilly day today. Pleased you stopped by.

You just wrote my own observations but far more vividly and eloquently than my own eyes presently permit, or indeed, I could have done ..

I can feel it too, a creeping sadness that shall reach its peak sometime mid to late November & then, if lucky I shall regain some insight at least and envisage the gradual emerging of another spring ..

              • Cassie58

Although I love autumn colour, it is not my favorite season. The change plays on my mood. It has been that way since I was at school. Yes, a creeping melancholy. I do adore spring though.Thank you Neville for your kind thoughts. I hope you have had a good Thursday.

Love the rhyming in this one, Love the subject matter and how you have personified the season, leaves, and frost. - Phil A.

Thank you Phil. Pleased you enjoyed this write. All the best.

A mild case of SAD: Seasonal Affective Disorder?
โ€˜Tis a pity you must suffer in order to entertain me with such a richly descriptive poem, Cassie. ๐Ÿ˜Š

                  • Cassie58

Funny man! Yes, it is probably SAD. So I make a point of sitting in sunlight whenever it shows its face. Happy Friday Dave the dog.

                    • Doggerel Dave

So do I - well until summer turns up... on its way... ...and (in a friendly tone), wuff.

The weather is a bit strange Cassie, you just do not know what to where but I am still wearing my shorts as I don't feel the cold.
The glory of Nature's Palette will be with us soon though.

                          Andy

                          • Cassie58

You are right Andy, the weather is fickle. I do like autumn colour but not the mood it brings me. The changing light I think. Thank you for stopping by this morning.

There is beauty and wisdom in every season. The lucky ones are the ones who are able to observe and admire this beauty.
You have revealed some of this beauty in your poem Cassie.

                            • Cassie58

Thank you dear Saleh for your kind response. I appreciate your visits to my work. Have a great weekend.
