For Dawn

Thomas W Case

You Got lost in
the deep end of life;
far from the
safe shallows.
Elf-like grin,
leftover from
childhood.

I couldn’t
save you.
9 months of
milky memories and
shipwrecks to
the soul.
Your grief killed
you as much as
the booze did.
I hope you’re now
resting
safely on the shore.

    I couldn’t save you

That hits hard when a loved one is in free fall. Truth is, they have to save themselves. Poignant words Thomas.

A most profound sadness in this, you have given much dignity, there are those who certainly can not be saved. 💙

Grief follows booze, booze invites death, I know this tune. Nice work.

the feelings of hopelessness in the wake of helplessness compounded by a deep sadness is so palpable here .. With much respect, very well poemed indeed TWC .. Neville
