Starmer’s Pyjamas (A “DirePunk” Song)

AuburnScribbler

V1

How do we like, our cup of tea?

Stirred by silver-spoon conspiracy,

with news on the rocks,

and sewage in locks,

where frantic little people

ride a boat ballot box…

Pre-chorus

Where’s superman? Where’s superman?

Oh, oh, oh, oh where’s superman? Where’s superman?

Chorus

There he is, he’s wide awake,

but everybody’s heads; are starting to shake, as

he’s really asleep, not wanting to keep,

a sleazy filthy shepherd who’s abandoned his sheep, who bought

pyjamas, they bought pyjamas, Starmer’s pyjamas, pyjamas! (repeat this line twice, last time around, on the second time, double the groove)

V2

When can we vent, when things do choke?

Times are made so hard that we just need a toke,

but what’s that they say?

No, no, no, no ash tray; and

forget about the chippy,

if you cannot pay…

V3

Where do we go, we’ve got no gas?

Turn into a gang of any under-pass,

let’s attack the streets,

and bombard police,

serve at Charlie’s pleasure

so to find our peace; but…

V4

What can we do, if we can’t fly?

Seems that all our questions only live to die,

we can’t pay the rent,

we Clark Kents are spent,

no way of such improvement

as the road is bent, so…

  • Comment from author about the poem: I thought I would have another “well deserved” break from all this walking, so… Given the rather poor start to their reign, I thought I would write a song posing fun at the UK’s new Labour Government, and of course, in particular, at the prime minister, Keir Starmer. Also, the song includes some of the sad realities and prospectivities, that the ruling class are delivering, or could deliver in the near future. The pace/vibe of this song, is a quick punky feel. Hence the subtitle in the brackets. I call this a “DirePunk” song, as I thought “DirePunk”, could be a new subculture like Cyberpunk or Steampunk. I chose the label, “DirePunk”, because of the relentless division and dissatisfaction, that governments provide, but in our “not wisdom” via a dour habituation with things, we really don’t want anything to change for the better that much, as we wouldn’t have anything to complain about. Hence: “Dire” and “Punk!” So, can Keir turn into a much needed superman? Or is he just sleeping on the job wrapped up warm in his pyjamas, that have been bought by the country’s taxes? Time and common decency will tell. I hope that you enjoy singing along, and as always, please do stay safe everyone.

Aha! The Holiday being one of my favorites, I declare but you bring back bits and pieces of that here! Thank you for sharing. I've enjoyed attempting to see how to sing it, which is fun to do.

Thanks for singing along Cheeky Missy, you are most welcome for the share, and I would very much like to hear your interpretation of both the rhythm and melody, of which, I am glad that you had fun with.

I am not quite sure I get "The Holiday" references that you are referring to, but if you can please point me in the right direction, all can be made clear.

I hope that all is well.

It was a Hollywood flick featuring Jude Law and Kate Winslet as the English characters.
