Notice of absence from Cassie58
I am taking a break from poetry
I am taking a break from poetry
sun shines
regardless of
grief
each one of us
a leaf waving
on a deciduous tree
not quite knowing
when our last goodbye
will arrive
fleeting
like a rain cloud
passing through
fragile
like a white winged
butterfly
though some
would wield a sledge hammer
strike a mighty blow
can change
a river’s flow in the
waters of history

I love this poem until its ending, "can change." It threw me off, "A mighty blow" "can change" ? I'm not sure of the meaning. I was sailing along with the beautiful lines about "trees," "clouds," and a "butterfly" and got hit with a "hammer." Did you mean to say a "mighty blow" "cannot change?'" I thought this to be a wonderful poem. It's probably me, but I lost something. - Phil A
Most people live their lives and pass through without making any significant impact. A few on the other hand can make a considerable impact and can change the course of history as they pass through on their journey. Poetry is so subjective. Thank you Phil so much for your response and for raising your thoughts. I appreciate them.
It often appears that life is quite fragile. Sometimes it seems more resilient. But I love the way this poem explained how life often hangs by a thread. Can we make change? Can we make an impact? Good questions. A very nice right Cassie.
Thank you so much for commenting. I appreciate you.
Yes, also it's said: 'All flesh is like grass, and all the glory (achievements, etc) of flesh is like a flower that fades'.
I see the 'hammer' part as certain crusading people who come along from time to time; pioneers; life-changers in some way; above all, Jesus in my Christian faith.
I like what you saw here Orchi. Thanks for commenting. All the best.
Thanks Cassie. Also there's KP - head of the campaign: 'More botox for all!' lol.
Some change is like a hammer blow by being unexpected. When an individual is the source of change, history is made. Thank you for sharing.
Thank you so much for reading and leaving a comment. I appreciate your time.
Powerful work, and very relatable as of late. Tremendous.
Thank you so much Thomas, especially as you found my words relatable. All the best.
Cassie, loved the poem sans the last two stanzas.
Thanks Dave. Yes the final two stanzas includes those who can put a spanner in the works. Some change is not always welcomed or is beneficial. I appreciate your thoughts.
'Spanner in the works' sounds good - depending on the 'works'.
Am I reassured then that you are not an adherent to The Great Man Theory of History? (No obligation to answer that - you should know by now I can be an argumentative old bugger without even trying !π)
And so it is, indeed. Dear Cassie you always have such beauty in your words. Beautiful. πΉ
Thank you dear Teddy. Your visits are very much appreciated. Have a happy Sunday. πΉ
"a riverβs flow in the waters of history "
nicely sums up many keen observations. Well done.
Thank you so much Dan for stopping by. I appreciate your thoughts.
That sun will always shine Cassie and hopefully that mighty blow will not affect us.
Andy
I hope you are right dear Andy. Whatever happens, the sun will continue to shine through both good and bad times.
So true Cassie.
Life is beautiful, even though it can be harsh sometimes.
We witness the cycle of life in nature every year, in Spring, when life returns, and in winter when all lay dormant. The same applies to man but on a larger scale. However, man being man forgets.
Your wise words reflect the cycle of life, with the changes that might occur in life.
Beautiful words dear poetess.
Your thoughts dear Sales on this poem are greatly appreciated. Thank you so much for sharing. All the best.
Apologies for the typo in your name Saleh.
