I awoke to the new day
And there he was in my mind
The man who showed me the way
To show respect and be kind.
He was there from my birth
He was my Dad, my teacher
He taught me what life was worth
To move forward and reach her
He brought music to my ears
My life sailed with music played
And still has for many years
For so very long it has stayed
He died on this day years ago
And I say to him thank you Dad.

- Comment from author about the poem: This was so strange, I woke up this morning and my Dad was in my mind, then I remembered that on this day, 9th September he had passed away, back in 1995, two months short of his seventieth birthday. He was one of nature's gentlemen and taught me the good way to lead my life. He also brought music to my life for which I will be ever grateful. The music is that which my brother and I had played at his funeral. When my Mum died 17 years later we had it played at her funeral as well and I am convinced that I saw Mum and Dad dancing in front of me, so it is a very special piece of music

You're welcome Andy
I have been fortunate enough to have a Dad who was kind, hardworking, generous, and a fountain of common sense. Gone forty-four years now but never forgotten. Thanks for this tribute.
