When I wear my hoodie, I feel safe and protected
You can’t see or hear me or my demons
Abandoned myself to the shadows hidden
Where it is safe and secure
Should I take off the hoodie?
Show my light, if I have it
Do I have it?
I do believe I have it, it’s bright and true
Buried in there somewhere, clawing to get out
Reaching out, pleading for release
Practice in the mirror, they say
Look at yourself and tell you that you love you
3 times a day, say the words and build your light
That you are important
That you have a heart and you should shine it bright
Take off the hoodie
The right people will see and love you
The wrong ones go
You’ll find yourself
Shining bright like you are

Well, some of us LOVE burying ourselves in hoods, where other introverts dislike such accommodations, and since I'm a girl, I cherish opaque tights, tall boots, and maxi skirts, but I've nary "demons" it's just little me.
This is beautifully rendered with a haunting poignancy, the details sufficient to cull from each reader a response, if they dare. Lovely. Thank you for sharing. (By the way, I've a literal ton of hooded sweaters, sweatshirts, etc. They're too perfect, aren't they?!)
Your welcome! I too have hoodies. I tend to wear them, of course, when it's cold. Or when I'm feeling dark, sad, or don't want to deal with other humans 🙂
But then instead of spreading my light/joy, it is hidden and I don't do those around me justice.
