Bicycles in Beijing

Cassie58

Katie sings of bicycles

nine million in Beijing

can you imagine all those bells

if they should start to ring

an orchestra’s obnoxious sound

a jarring noisy din

can you anticipate the hell

of parking in that place

you’d need to know your bearings well

to find an empty space

and then you’d have the problem of

retrieving one you own

how would you find the one that’s yours

when all of them are cloned

i’m thankful that i’ve room to move

with air that’s clean to breathe

i’m thankful for the birds that sing

in woodlands deep in trees

and though i’ve been and seen Beijing

was pleased that I could go

i couldn’t wait to hurry home

to country views I know

Oh yes, I so get this, i find It pure education to see how others live in different cultures, I was once in Madagascar incredible learning for life. Those bikes I can assure you if I was there there would have been some sort of calamity as I am incredibly clumsy for example parking one in a row, they'd come down like the 10 green bottles. Where ever I am even here in Italy I always miss home. A beautiful piece of poetry dearest Cassie. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿🌹🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿🌹

Thank you Teddy. Isn’t it strange what the muse brings to you sometimes? This visit to Beijing was quite a few years back. A very different culture. Quite oppressive. I missed home. Thank you. Your response made me laugh. I can’t imagine you being clumsy. Have a lovely day. 🌹

Nice clarity and flow for such a tangled story. How did parking spaces get to be so important?

            • Cassie58

Hello Dan. The parking of bicycles was not important to me but it sure would be if I owned one out there. The muse can direct in a strange way. This poem was inspired by a song. Thanks for sharing your thoughts.

              • Cassie58

This was quite a while back Andy. It has probabky changed. Delighted to hear that your granddaughter is happier there than I was. Much too oppressive for me. Military police everywhere. Thanks for sharing your thoughts, have a great Thursday.

I remember the very first time I heard this track .. Not yet been to Beijing but it's on the cards ..
I note however Teddy has been to Madagascar and I am going there in May so expect to get a preview, or some idea ... perhaps .. I have been homesick a few time tho' when I have been working overseas, never yet while on vacation ..
Nice ink my friend which as you promised, made me smile .. Neville

                          • Cassie58

Thank you Neville. Like you, homesick on business, there without family, but never homesick on holiday. I am sure Beijing has probably changed quite a bit since I visited. Couldn’t handle the oppressive feeling. Military police everywhere checking us out. Horrible. One of our party not allowed to board the plane home on the way back. That did it for me. Have contacts there. Got a free holiday if I want one. No thanks. Whereas Katie M, her song a delight. There were a lot of bicycles there:)
