last nights end

Maplespal

We walked home without a word said,

one after another, tread after tread,

away from where the sun drops dead,

the whole time our shadows lead.

Slowly the darkness around spread,

as the evening into night time sped.

Shared loving words softly said,

walked with our fingers together thread.

Silently we forged bravely ahead,

to the safety of our homestead,

to some hot tea and toasted bread,

then slept in a comfortably warmed bed.

Ooh! This is so charming and verily quite beautiful, so much so it nearly takes away my breath! How winsomely rendered with a warming poignancy which takes away all reservations in the glow of sweet rest. Thank you so very much for sharing.

Dare I add "easily read"? Clever and even amusing.
