On through the tunnel

orchidee

On through the tunnel of bereavement

Give ourselves enough time to mourn

Yet with all the busyness

This and that to attend to

It's a tunnel with light

Various expressions, support

Of people and groups available

Time to sing again sometime

Though maybe suppressed just now

As a hymn says:

'The voice of prayer is never silent

Nor dies the strain of praise away'

You'll welcome me with open arms

When I sing - or screech - again

Or you'll run a million miles away!

Fido will howl a bit for you too

Are we The Dreadful Duo?!

A fine write, Orchi. A lot said well.

      Thanks Jerry.

I'm thankful to see you've an ablility to still sing, albeit necessarily dampened by your irreparable loss. I've been unable to lustily sing hymns since losing my own Mum nearly a decade ago, and began to crumble further after my father passed, crushing me with the reality of his loss. Very beautifully rendered with a striking and irresistible poignancy. Thank you so very much for sharing.

Thanks CM. Partly it's a daft in-joke on here, that my singing is unbearable (lol). Yet we can find some singing, even through such losses as these, even if we may only sing sad songs for a while. Bereavement need not shatter us completely, especially if we have at least some Christian faith. That's my belief and outlook anyway.

Of course you're correct. Thank you for reminding me. I guess my pride must be what cannot abide my breaking down into weeping when I try to sing hymns like I used to do.

May you make it through all this with peace my friend. As for the screeching or howling bagpipes are the best tribute at a funeral

If you can sing any notes again this early, you are doing well. A touching write Orchi at a sad time for you. All good wishes.

sometimes one mourns the loss of a beloved, and at other times happy memories sustain us..your poem is written from the heart and not the head- it's touching and beautiful
